Dual-Energy CT Applications in Urological Diseases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) is a medical imaging technique that uses two different energy levels of X-rays to provide more detailed information about the composition tissues and materials within body. DECT technology still relatively new but applications have been developed for urological field. For example, it can be used analyze stones determine whether they are likely made up calcium oxalate, uric acid, or other minerals. This help guide treatment decisions, as types may require approaches treatment. The availability iodine maps helps differentiation between benign malignant tumors urinary tract, including bladder, kidneys, ureters. generated by on tumor vascularity, which in staging determining aggressiveness tumor. assess blood flow kidneys detect vascular disorders such renal artery stenosis aneurysms. critical early detection management these disorders, reduce risk failure improve outcomes. valuable tool field clinicians with accurate diagnosis planning various conditions. In this narrative review, we propose an overview possible application diseases.

Artifact reduction in dual-energy CT reconstruction for security applications

In this paper we present a structure-preserving dual-energy (SPDE) CT reconstruction method for security, which provides enhanced estimates of material-dependent basis coefficient images. In security applications many different materials may be scanned in various degrees of clutter and metal objects are common. Image noise and metal artifacts are often severe and can lower the accuracy of mater...

A novel dual energy CT-based attenuation correction method in PET/CT systems: A phantom study

In present PET/CT scanners, PET attenuation correction is performed by relying on the information given by CT scan. In the CT-based attenuation correction methods, dual-energy technique (DECT) is the most accurate approach, which has been limited due to the increasing patient dose. In this feasibility study, we have introduced a new method that can implement dual-en...

Dual-Energy CT in Neuroimaging

Image contrast in CT is mostly dependent on elements with high atomic weight, such as calcium, iron, and iodine The concentrations of these elements can be calculated from dual-energy x-ray data based on their characteristic attenuation patterns Dual-energy CT may can be helpful in neuroimaging to: Differentiate between hemorrhage and iodinated contrast agents in brain parenchyma Improve CT ang...

Nonuniqueness in dual-energy CT.

PURPOSE The goal is to determine whether dual-energy computed tomography (CT) leads to a unique reconstruction using two basis materials. METHODS The beam-hardening equation is simplified to the single-voxel case. The simplified equation is rewritten to show that the solution can be considered to be linear operations in a vector space followed by a measurement model which is the sum of the ex...

Dual-energy CT revisited with multidetector CT: review of principles and clinical applications.

Although dual-energy CT (DECT) was first conceived in the 1970s, it was not widely used for CT indications. Recently, the simultaneous acquisition of volumetric dual-energy data has been introduced using multidetector CT (MDCT) with two X-ray tubes and rapid kVp switching (gemstone spectral imaging). Two major advantages of DECT are material decomposition by acquiring two image series with diff...
